Physical Review Fluids The First Year and Beyond. Physical Review Fluids PR Fluids was launched in January 2016. It started accepting submissions a month later and its first issue was published in May 2016. As of now we have received over 700 submissions including 75 Rapid Communications with approximately 280 papers accepted and in most cases already published.
Although Physical Review Fluids is still in its infancy the editors are positive about the journal’s progress. We are very happy with our first volume both in terms of quality and the scope we have covered writes John Kim of the University of California Los Angeles and co lead editor of Physical Review Fluids in an email to APS News .
APS is launching a new online only journal Physical Review Fluids.By expanding the scope of the APS journals to include additional areas of fluids research Physical Review Fluids will complement the existing Physical Review collection. The journal will issue a call for papers in early 2016.
How iceberg shape affects melting is investigated in a combined experimental and numerical study of ice melting in warm salt water. Experiments show that in contrast to previous models melting is highly nonuniform side melt rates can be up to 3 times larger than bottom melt rates and melt rates vary significantly within each face. Numerical simulations reveal that vortices accelerate
We propose a windward bi frequency control strategy to manipulate experimentally the wake past a yawed car model using pulsed jets. By varying the low frequency value in the actuation we can provide a complete authority for the manipulation of the mean wake orientation and reduce drag.
The mechanical oscillations of a miniaturized resonator generate viscous oscillatory nanoflows in the surrounding fluid. As a result the fluid presents an effective added mass and damping to the resonator which is commonly predicted by a two dimensional flow model. Here the limitations to the two dimensional model are examined when a substrate and axial flow are present.
